When
you get something for 'free' on the internet; a free download, a free
read of a newspaper article, an eBook, or an online seminar, you
entered a sales funnel. You get to read the free stuff; the
counterparty receives your email address. That is the deal. After
that, the spam shitstorm can commence. Not Free, more of a trade with
an immediate return; product exchanged for your email address.
When
you do a Google search, this search inquiry is registered; what you
typed in, where you are, probably your age and gender. This
information is used to sell Ads.
Back in the day, strolling
shopping street, you occasionally got a food or beverage sample.
Remember those small cans of Fanta or flavored coke, with a new
taste, those half-sized portions? Great when you happened to be
thirsty. That product sample was free. The cutely dressed teens,
juggling te soda cans, did not take down your home address or
personal data. They handed out the product and hoped to get
brand-sympathy in return - no immediate trade-off. And in case you
liked the pop, they might acquire a new customer. You did not get
dozens of phone calls or letters in your mailbox inquiring about the
customer experience and future purchases. That brand did not get your
private information. Maybe it is my age, but I liked that marketing
better.
